LMDC Commences Investigation into Alleged Medical Wrongful Death at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital
Monrovia, January 10, 2025 – The Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) has launched an investigation into allegations of medical malpractice and wrongful death following the passing of 21-year-old Isaiah Benedict Williams during a medical procedure at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital.
As part of the investigation process, the LMDC convened a preliminary hearing today, Friday, January 10, at its headquarters, with the participation of the deceased’s family and representatives from St. Joseph Catholic Hospital.
The Council empathizes with the family for the loss of their son and reaffirms its commitment to a fair and transparent investigation. The LMDC urges the public to remain calm as the inquiry progresses and assures that the process will be thorough and credible.
The investigation is being overseen by the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Prof. Peter S. Coleman. The committee comprises representatives from the Allied Health, Nursing, and Midwifery Board, along with specialist doctors, medical consultants, and the Chairperson of the Council, Dr. Benetta Collins-Andrews.
